Synopsis: When DC Lucy Murphy meets Debra, wife of feared drug dealer Gerard Jennings, she sees a young woman in urgent need of help. Brutalised by her husband, Debra is too terrified to tell the police what she knows. But Lucy is determined to bring Gerard down – for Debra’s sake, and the safety of the Griffin Estate.
Meanwhile, after the death of one of his drug runners, Gerard is under pressure from his bosses to prove he’s still up to the job. Facing threats of violence as well as police interest, Gerard is getting desperate – and desperate men are the most dangerous of all.As Lucy prepares to go undercover in Gerard’s gang to get the evidence she needs to arrest him, her beloved grandmother Winnie starts acting strangely. She mentions a man visiting her at night in her care home, but that makes no sense – does it?
Any distraction could prove deadly for Lucy and the people she’s trying to protect. But she has backed a vicious man into a corner, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.
My Rating: 5/5
My Review: I read book one after this one, but it made no difference as I knew what was going on anyway. However now I have read book 1 as well, it makes me really want to get to book 3! Lucy is our lead character and as both book 1 and this book show she is having issues with her horrific experience as a child. She was the witness to her Mother’s horrfic murder when she was just a child. In addition she has the feared gangster Gerard Jennings to contend with. Gerard’s wife Debrah is the victim of Gerard’s brutality and Lucy sees that she needs help so she prepares to go undercover.
This story and it’s characters were completely compelling and I spent the whole book wondering how much of her past Lucy would remember. It’s really obvious how far Lucy has come and it’s also evident howmuch danger she is placing herself in as Gerard Jennings is certainly not a man to tolerate police. This book was definitley a step up from the first withmore danger, action and heart stopping moments. You can feel the tension has been ramped up for book 2 making me read even quicker than normal. This installment was an absolute corker and I am going to be eagerly awaiting book 3!
