BLOG TOUR – Love Lies and Wedding Cake by Sue Watson

Synopsis: Faye Dobson is in crisis. You wouldn’t know it, because of the big fat smile on her face, but inside, she’s one step away from nuclear meltdown. And she shouldn’t be. Dan ?? is the man of her dreams. Her really quite energetic dreams, that frequently come true. Sometimes twice in one night. And he’s just asked her to marry him.

But Faye’s been down the marriage road before and it ended up with her having Ryan Gosling fantasies while her ex-husband obsessed about the plumbing. The actual plumbing. Faye and Dan have been living their lives to the fullest, travelling around the world, having sex under the stars… They haven’t argued about unrolling socks before putting them in the laundry.

Besides, even if she wanted to say yes, how could she move to the other side of the world? Because marrying Dan would mean living in Australia. Beautiful, warm and a gazillion miles from Faye’s daughter, Emma, a single mum with her own crazy little girl who both need Faye every single day. Leaving them – even for someone who makes her laugh as much as Dan – simply isn’t an option.

Dan is offering Faye everything she ever wanted. So why does she feel like she’s about to lose it all?

Kat’s Rating: 5/5 (I’d give it 10 out of 5 if humanly possible)

This is a sequel to one of my ALL TIME favourite books, and my suggestion is to read that book first as it’s brilliant. Check out my review for that under our Categories list – Sue Watson

Kat’s Review: So many moons ago back in 2012 I discovered this author named Sue Watson. I read a couple of her books and then in 2014 I discovered Love, Lies and Lemon Cake a book that has continued to stay on my all time favourites shelf ever since. It’s also one of the few books I have read more than once. Over the years I have been nagging and whingeing for a while about a sequel, and lo and behold look at this beauty! I have to admit I was scared and excited in equal measures. What if she made a hash of it and the book was rubbish? Anyhow, I started it with trepidation and a little fear. Approximately 7 hours later I can confirm my fear was unfounded. Not only was it unfounded but this sequel just proves WHY the readers needed one.

The original will always hold a special place for me but this follow up was absolutely marvelous. Faye Dobson appears to have it all with the man of her dreams, however all is not as it seems and before too long the cracks start to appear. What I absolutely loved is Faye herself, she is so normal and funny and ridiculous all wrapped up in one. She is no different to the first book, and when you start to read about her again all the brilliant quirks come pouring back. She is a woman who when she makes mistakes feels the need to explain, and then add more explanation, resulting in a very long-winded and sometimes hilarious conversations.

Thankfully we also see the return of the legendary Mandy her work colleague, the woman is a legend. In addition there are Faye’s daughter Emma and her hilarious and adorable granddaughter Rosie. The wonderful thing about this sequel is what happens and how, I love the fact it isn’t instant flowers and romance and doesn’t necessarily work out how you think it will for Dan and Faye. I think how long it took me to read this book may well be an indication of just how much I loved it and I am truly thrilled to get to find out what happened. Not only that but I got to laugh along at Faye, Mandy, Rosie and we even get brief appearances by Sue (Faye’s friend who moved to Devon).

As for Dan, well he is just the sort of Man that every woman is almost convinced does not exist. However in the world of Faye he certainly does exist and it isn’t such plain sailing this time around. The way the story pans out and seeing the paths that all the characters takes is absolutely brilliant. This was a truly wonderful and funny book that warmed my heart, made me laugh and made me cry. Who needs retail therapy when there’s a sequel to Love, Lies and Lemon Cake. Sue Watson is a a genius and in my opinion a hugely UNDER rated author. This along with the first book are what every woman needs when they are feeling fed up, or just need a bit of a giggle.

Sue Watson….I salute you!!!
